Kojo Botchey

Mr. Kojo Botchey, head of Finance and Engineering department of AEMRN, is an engineering professional, with a Master of Science in Actuarial Sciences from HEC (One of Europe's most prestigious business schools -*EQUIS accredited) at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. HEC, Lausanne is Europe's leading Business School. His interested research area is Financial Risk Management.

After completing his University degree at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, where he obtained his BSc. in Mechanical engineering in 1998 Mr. Botchey was contracted by a British based consultancy (WS Atkins International) as a Project Engeneer on the project fixed asset revaluation study of the Ghana Water Company limited. This project was to evaluate and cost the fixed assets of Ghana Water Company limited. This project was for one year. During the same period he was a part time lecturer at the Accra Polytechnic, where he taught heat transfer and mathematics. Between 1999 and 2002, Mr Botchey worked for the Volta River Authority (An energy generation and transmission company in Ghana) as a Mechanical Engineer. He is an Associate member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers. Mr Botchey's ambitions far exceeded his employers' dreams. In this regard, in 2002 he decided to further his education by pursing an International Master of Science program at the University of Dalarna, Sweden. The International (Bologna system) nature of this program gave him the opportunity to take up a management semester course at the University of applied Science, Bern in Switzerland. It was after this semester that Mr. Botchey's career in the financial world started. Mr. Botchey was more interested in how to train people to handle NGO finances (especially in developing countries). He then formalised that by taking a course on Practical Financial Management for NGOs. Between 2004 and 2005 he was the financial controller of Swiss Exile (a Swiss-based NGO). He was the General Secretary of the Ghanaian Oversees Residents' Association in Switzerland from 2004 to 2005. At the moment he is the Asst. General Secretary. He contributed to the formation of the organisation WIAFOLIL (Women in Action for One Love in Liberia).

Mr. Botchey realising that it is not enough to only train people to manage accounts, but also to let them be aware of the risks associated in investing in certain projects in the developing world and also how to manage these risks. He then decided to take up his current career path of becoming an Actuary, who are one of the best (if not the best) Financial risk management professionals. An actuary is a person concerned with the application of probability and statistical theory to problems of insurance, investments, pension, and financial risk management.

Mr. Botchey is now working with the Swiss Asset Consultancy as an Asset Consultant. He is also a member of the Schweizerische Energie-Stiftung.
